About the destination:

Stari Grad (ancient Faros) is a town on the island with a ferry port. It is the island’s main transport hub connected with Split, the central port on the mainland.

Stari Grad is the oldest settlement on the island of Hvar, founded in 384 BC by Greek colonizers as independent polis Faros (Pharos).

Given it’s today one of the main places on the island, it has everything that local residents and tourists need.

Shops and markets, restaurants, cafes, ATMS, a pharmacy, a sailing club Helios can all be found here, but the main tourist attraction is Tvrdalj Castle, a well-preserved Renaissance building with its beautiful fishpool and garden.

Tvrdalj was the summer residence of Petar Hektorović, the Croatian poet. During the 16th century, when the island of Hvar came under attack from the Ottoman, Hektorović, being one of the local nobles, fortified his house so that it could act as shelter for the local citizens.
