About the destination:
Zagreb is Croatian capital city as well as financial and political centre. It is divided in two parts: the old medieval Upper Town on a hill above the city and the Lower Town.
While the Upper town is now a place for governmental buildings, restaurants and bars, Lower Town is where people live and work. Unlike the Upper Town, with limited traffic due to its small and narrow streets, the streets of Lower Town are mostly wide. The city centre is located in the Lower Town, just underneath the Upper Town. The two parts are connected by a funicular, but you can also walk up the hill on foot.
The river Sava runs through the city but most of the tourists won’t even see it since it lies far from the city centre. There are several bridges connecting the New Part of Zagreb with the city centre.
Zagreb has many parks, fountains and promenades. Green and water oases like the Maksimir park, Jarun and Bundek lakes make the city perfect for living. There are around million inhabitants in Zagreb, a perfectly located town 20 minutes away from ski slopes of Medvjednica and only 90 minutes away from the seaside (Rijeka region).
Start your exploring in the centre, from the main square of ban Josip Jelačić (pronounced as yellacheech) head towards Tadićeva, Tkalčićeva od Bogovićeva street, visit the Flower square and ride a funicular form Ilica street up to the Upper town where you will have the best view of the city.
Zagreb is a super popular destination from spring to autumn, and in the last five year especially during the Christmas time. The award for the best Christmas destination in Europe for 3 years for sure has to do with it!
